Home Design and Interior Design

This custom home was designed both inside, and out, by Step One Design.  The collaborative experience created a successful outcome for this Oak Bay Home.

Nestled amongst character and tradition, this home design was challenging as lot size was not extensive given the wish list from the client.  However, Step One, successfully created a floor plan with flex space – a master bedroom on both floors to allow the owners to grow through and into the space.  Included in the main floor was a functional great room space, laundry room, master bedroom, dining room, and two car garage.  Upstairs, 2 bedrooms, a media room and additional master allowed for growing children to maintain their own space.

The interior design concept included craftsman styling with modern touches of dark gray and white shaker style cabinetry.  Panel moulding and marble ledgestone added elegance and a wonderful balance to rustic features of wide plank oak floors, and touches of black.

Let's Discuss Your Plans

Hip roofs, stucco and siding made this a modern yet transitional home. The transitional was more inclusive in the established neighborhood, while the modern allowed the owners to express their request for simply, elegant spaces that had a sense of calm.

Mirage white oak floors, and walnut cabinetry in the main residence created elegance and calm. While the suite was built for durability which included wood look low VOC vinyl plank floors and clean white cabinetry.

A covered exterior eating and lounging area to the south facing yard (along with skylights so that sun into great room was not impeded) offered the ability to expand family gatherings in the warmer months.
